Billy Ray George, age 70, of Newport, departed from this life on April 9, 2026. Born in Newport on August 23, 1955, to Thurman Wilburn and Zelma Rhea (Martin) George, Billy devoted his life to the farming community, working diligently in farming and cultivating both crops and friendships throughout his community.

Known for his gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and infectious smile, Billy found joy in the simple moments of life. He was a member of Campbell Station Baptist Church. He loved reading his bible, playing solitaire on quiet afternoons, and riding through the countryside with his beloved dogs, Bella and Little Bit, always at his side. Billy cherished his family deeply, and was a beloved brother, uncle and friend whose presence brought comfort and laughter to every gathering.

Billy will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his dedication to faith and family, and the way he brightened the lives of all who knew him. His memory lives on in the stories shared, the lessons learned, and the love he spread throughout his community.

He leaves behind treasured memories and a lasting impact on his family, friends, and all who knew him. Billy Ray George’s life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, love, and simple joys.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; his sister, Winnie Turrentine, Cheri McFall, and Iris Ann Brinsfield.

He is survived by his sisters, Leona Fortune of Newport and Dora Atkinson of Tuckerman; a special niece, Jackie Turrentine; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and special friends, Billy Harris, Bob Penix, and Charlie Churchman.
