A section of Hawkins Street is closing to through traffic starting Monday so city crews can replace a failing drainage structure that is causing the roadway to collapse.

The Batesville Street Department will install a new box culvert between 535 and 555 Hawkins St. According to city officials, the installation is expected to take three to four weeks.

The affected block will remain closed to through traffic until the project is complete. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, exercise patience, and drive safely when navigating near the construction zone.
