Don’t be alarmed if you see a sudden surge of flashing lights and emergency vehicles on 14th Street later this month. It is only a test.
The Batesville Police Department will conduct a large-scale, multi-agency training exercise on June 18 to practice coordination during critical incidents.
The daylong exercise will take place on 14th Street between Byers and Neeley streets.
Local residents should expect a heavy presence of emergency personnel and police vehicles, as well as simulated training activities, throughout the day. While department officials say they are working to keep disruptions to a minimum, drivers and residents in the immediate area may experience temporary traffic delays.
Police emphasized that the event is strictly a training scenario and poses no danger to the public. Personnel will be stationed along the perimeter to guide drivers and answer neighbors’ questions.
According to a department statement, the continuous training exercise is part of an ongoing effort to ensure local officers are prepared to respond effectively to high-stakes emergencies.
