Army Blackhawk helicopters and a C-130 transport plane will sweep across Arkansas skies Wednesday as the Arkansas National Guard launches its “FlyOver Arkansas” campaign — a statewide salute marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The Guard announced flights will pass over Batesville, Heber Springs, Mountain View, and Melbourne between 11 a.m. and noon Wednesday as part of a day-long route covering communities from central Arkansas to the Missouri border.

The operation is part of the national Semiquincentennial observance commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

Wednesday’s flight schedule begins in Cabot, Beebe, and Searcy between 10 and 11 a.m., then moves into the north-central region. Aviators are expected over Mountain Home from noon to 1 p.m., then Salem and Ash Flat from 1 to 2 p.m. The day’s route concludes between 2 and 3 p.m. with passes over Pocahontas, Walnut Ridge, Newport, Augusta, Des Arc, and Lonoke.

The Arkansas National Guard encouraged residents statewide to watch the skies and be on the lookout for Guard aviators flying over their hometowns throughout the week.
