Debra Johnson, age 68, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Debra was born on July 17, 1958, in Newport, Arkansas, to Betty Gillespie and the late Joe Henry Hatchett. She attended Medina High School and went on to live a life marked by love, compassion, dedication, and faith.
At a young age, Debra gave her life to Christ and continued to serve the Lord throughout her life. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she carried that faith with her through every season of her life. She loved the Lord and sought to be a blessing to those around her.
For more than a decade, Debra worked as an assistant teacher, where she devoted herself to helping children with special needs. Working with children was more than a job to her—it was something she truly loved. She had a natural gift for making others feel cared for and welcomed.
Above all, Debra treasured her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, and the time she spent with those she loved was among her greatest joys. She cherished family gatherings and the simple moments that became treasured memories.
Debra had a vibrant personality and enjoyed many things in life. She loved shopping, singing, dancing, and playing cards. She also took great pride in caring for her house plants, finding joy in nurturing and watching them grow. Her warmth, laughter, and love for life brought happiness to those fortunate enough to know her.
Though her passing leaves a deep emptiness in the lives of those who knew and loved her, Debra’s life was a beautiful gift. The memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared will remain forever.
She is preceded in death by her father and her brother, Jerome Hatchett. She leaves to cherish the memory of her beloved mother, Betty Gillespie; her devoted husband of 47 years, Thomas Johnson Sr.; her two sons, Jeremy (Crystal) Hatchett of Columbus, Ohio, and Thomas (Amber) Johnson Jr.; and her daughter, Laquida (Timothy) Anderson of Taneytown, Maryland.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Lamesha Hatchett, Cashmere Hatchett, Kall-el Hatchett, Jaylen Hatchett, Brianna Johnson, Aria Woods, Tristian Johnson, Zion Anderson, and Tatum Johnson.
Debra is also survived by her four sisters, Denise Jones, Lavern (Windell) Parker, Teresa Gillespie, and Brenda Gillespie; her two brothers, Tyrone Hatchett and Scooter Hatchett; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, loved ones, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeremy Hatchett, Thomas Johnson, Barry Robinson, Claude Robinson, Sedrick Brown, Edward Smith, Jessie Smith, Jerry Brandon, Billy Mooreland, Bo Black, Donny Alcorn and Leroy Mansko.
Service will be at 11:00 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at First Baptist Church with Brother Robert Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.
