Chris Hill is bringing fresh ideas home to Independence County.
The Director of Marketing and Communications for the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce has completed Year 2 of the Community Development Institute (CDI) at the University of Central Arkansas, a nationally recognized leadership program for community and economic development professionals. A Citizens Bank professional development scholarship supported his participation.
CDI’s three-year curriculum includes an intensive week of training each year, focusing on community leadership, strategic planning, economic development and placemaking. Hill said the program continues to offer valuable insights and connections that directly benefit Batesville and Independence County.
“One of the greatest strengths of CDI is learning alongside people from communities across Arkansas and beyond,” Hill said. “Every community faces unique challenges, but many of the best solutions come from sharing ideas and learning from one another. I’m excited to bring those ideas back to Batesville and Independence County as we continue building on the momentum our community has created.”
As Director of Marketing and Communications for the chamber, Hill oversees communications, tourism marketing through Experience Independence, economic development projects, and community engagement initiatives. He has helped lead marketing and communications efforts for major community projects and events, including the Christmas Capital of Arkansas, the Batesville Rodeo, and the Riverside Park Renovation, as well as other initiatives that promote tourism, economic growth, and quality of life. Hill also serves on the Batesville Parks and Recreation Committee.
Crystal Johnson, PCED, president and CEO of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, praised Hill’s commitment to continued learning and leadership.
“Chris approaches every project with creativity, curiosity, and a genuine desire to make our community even better,” Johnson said. “CDI challenges leaders to think strategically, collaborate with others, and bring home ideas that create lasting impact. I’m proud of his commitment to professional growth and excited to see him complete the program next year.”
Founded at the University of Central Arkansas in 1987, CDI now serves multiple states. Graduates gain hands-on experience in community leadership, economic development, collaboration, and long-term strategic planning.
Hill will return next summer to complete the third and final year of the program and earn his Professional Community and Economic Developer (PCED) certification through the Community Development Council.
