The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended a flood warning for the White River at Batesville that will affect parts of Independence County.
The weather service issued the warning for Friday morning through late Monday evening, noting minor flooding of agricultural land along the river could occur.
According to NWS officials, a 15-foot stage at the bridge is equivalent to a 23-foot flood stage at the Lock One Tailwater staff gauge. At 10 a.m. on Friday, the stage was at 15 feet.
A crest of 17 feet at the bridge is equivalent to a 28-foot crest at the Lock One Tailwater staff gauge. At 17 feet, a portion of State Highway 14 near Oil Trough may flood.
The weather service says the river is expected to rise to a crest of 17 feet this evening and fall below flood stage Sunday afternoon.
Remember: Turn around, and don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
