Carlene Morrison, a Cave City native, was appointed as the director of the Independence County Library during a recent meeting held by the library’s board. Simultaneously, Laura Rumans was named the Librarian of Record (LOR).

Morrison, who has been an employee of the Independence County Library since June 2009, has been serving as the interim director since February 2022. She was chosen as the director after an extensive search and interview process, the library said in a media release.

“Carlene has seen the library at its best and its worse,” Chairman Bill Walmsley said in the release. “She is dedicated to seeing it always at its best and spends her time trying to always see that it is as good as it can be. She is invaluable.”

The next board meeting is scheduled for July 18, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., and it is open to the public.

The Independence County Library is at 267 E. Main Street, Batesville, AR 72501. It operates from Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
