
Mamie Inez Maddox (Davidson) James, 87, of Newport departed this life on Saturday, December 30, 2023. She was born on November 22, 1936, in Griffin Georgia to Jesse Sherman and Mary Ludie (Slade)Maddox.
Mamie, a devoted member of Campbell Station Baptist Church, departed this life with a heart full of love for various passions. Her affection for animals, particularly cats, manifested in the care of an impressive total of 32 feline companions. Mamie’s life was colored by the joy she found in Bingo, painting, cross-stitching, and indulging in the romantic worlds created by Danielle Steel and Harlequin Romance novels.
A lover of life’s festivities, she enjoyed dressing up and listening to live music, dancing, and even taking part in the senior Olympics. Mamie cherished family reunions and holiday gatherings, finding joy in the shared moments of togetherness. Amidst her broad circle of acquaintances, Mamie held a special lifelong friendship with Suzanne Schilling of Georgia. Her bond with her granddaughter, Destany Schnyer, was especially cherished, embodying the warmth and connection that defined Mamie’s rich and vibrant life. As we bid farewell, we celebrate Mamie’s unique spirit and the enduring love she shared with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Annie Lavata Maddox; her brothers, Jessie, Johnny, Alfred, Warren, Steve, Virgil, and James; her sisters, Edna, Eula, Ruby, Myra, Annie, and three infant siblings; her three sons, Marvin Glen Davidson, Jr., David D. Davidson, and Johnnie Glen Davidson her husband, Mavin Davidson.
She is survived by her daughters, Violet Propes of Tuckerman, Kay (Marvin) Lites of Dallas, Texas, Monica Self (Jack Carter) of Diaz, Cathy Hawkins of Bedford, Texas; her sisters, Marie Tarpley, Phyllis Langston and Della Marchman all of Georgia; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Chapel.
