Phillip Darnell Brown, 52, of Newport, departed this life on September 6, 2024. He was born on April 10, 1972, in Newport to Clemmie Alcorn Jr. and Janice Brown.
Phillip was a proud member of Omega Psi Fraternity Inc., where he developed many lifelong friendships and a sense of brotherhood. One of Phillip’s greatest passions was helping the youth in his community. As the founder and operator of IMAD (I’m Making A Difference), he worked tirelessly to provide mentorship and guidance to young people, instilling in them the importance of hard work, dedication, and integrity. Through IMAD, he was able to inspire a generation of young minds and make a lasting impact on Newport.
In addition to his work with the youth, Phillip was an avid cook. He took pride in running the IMAD Village Grill, where he not only served delicious food but also created a space for community members to come together. His cooking, particularly for his loved ones, was an expression of his care and devotion.
Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Clemmie Alcorn Jr.; his daughter, Taleah Brown; his brothers, Bryant Brown and Terrance Ratliffe; and his grandparents, R.D. Brown Sr. and Helen Brown.
He is survived by his loving mother, Janice Brown (Jimmy Corley) of Newport; his stepmother, Barbara Alcorn of Newport; his daughter, Taylor Brown of Little Rock; his granddaughter, Cali Brown of Little Rock; his brothers, Timothy Brown of Newport and Clemmie Alcorn III (Stephanie) of Georgia; his sisters, Taleisha Alcorn of Newport, Tamika Neasman of San Antonio, Texas, and Tracy Brown of Newport; and his faithful dog, Que. Phillip also leaves behind special friends Ysla Thompson of Newport, Ken Bright of Mississippi, Jermaine Bryant of Bryant, and a large extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.
