Obituary: Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin, 66, of Newport, passed from this life on May 10, 2025. She was born on June 19, 1958, in Newport to Cyrouse Brouse and Dorothy Jewel (James) Wilson.

Kathy was a woman who found joy in the simple but meaningful parts of life—especially when surrounded by family. She had a deep love for family gatherings and treasured every opportunity to be with her loved ones. Family birthdays held a special place in her heart, and she looked forward to celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas each year, not just for the food and festivities, but for the love and laughter shared around the table.

Kathy had a fun and adventurous spirit. She loved watching scary movies, always ready for a good thrill. She enjoyed spending time at the casino, testing her luck, and going shopping for the little things that made her happy. Quiet afternoons were often filled with working on puzzles, a favorite pastime that reflected her patience and thoughtful nature.

To those who knew her, Kathy will be remembered for her warm heart, her kind presence, and the comfort of her company. She had a way of making those around her feel special, and her love for her family was always at the center of her life.

Kathy Griffin’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of thirty years, David Griffin; her son, Frank Barger; her brothers, Danny Wilson and Tommy Wilson; and her sister, Bonnie Simons.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony Patterson (Stephanie) of Truman; Stephen Barger of Newport and D.J. Griffin; her daughters, Amy Benford of Walnut Ridge, Pamela Simons of Tuckerman, Kimberly Diaz (Jorge), Amber Young (Stephen) of Maple Springs; her brother, Jimmy Wilson of Newport; her sister, Janice Martin (Jeral) of Judsonia; twenty-four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special friends, Janan McElroy and Carla Winston; numerous nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends and her fur baby, Seven.

A Memorial service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel.
