Obituary: Harold Lee Bowles

Harold Lee Bowles, age 81, passed away on August 12, 2025, at The Blossoms Nursing Home in Mountain View, Arkansas, surrounded by family. Harold was born to Leona and Earl Bowles, Jr., on July 23, 1944, in Janesville, Iowa.

Harold began his education at Janesville Consolidated School, where he met Janice Jones in the first grade, his future bride and wife of 62 years. They dated throughout high school, graduated in 1962, and were united in marriage at the Janesville United Methodist Church on August 11, 1963. Harold and Janice were blessed with two children, Lynette and Brent.

Harold enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Postal Clerk on the USS Manley, Charleston, South Carolina. Harold worked for John Deere as Department Coordinator in Waterloo, Iowa, for 30 years, retiring in 1996.

Harold was active in volunteer organizations, including Fire Chief for the Janesville Fire Department, member of the Janesville City Council, Lions Club, Jaycees, American Legion and serving as president of the SnoHawks Snowmobile Club.

Harold was an avid fisherman and hunter throughout his life. He enjoyed several memorable fishing trips to Canada with his family. He and Janice vacationed in Alaska, Hawaii, and Amsterdam.
After retiring, Harold and Janice moved to Unionville, Missouri, where they lived on Lake Thunderhead for 15 years and wintered in Pharr, Texas. In 2011, they moved to Heber Springs, Arkansas and for the past five years have lived in Mountain View, Arkansas.

Along with his wife of 62 years, Janice Bowles, survivors are his daughter, Lynette (Gary), Brent (Jodi), grandchildren, Chloe, Bryce, Josie, Delaney and Lauren; and five great grandchildren, Roman, Kara, Emerson, Hudson, and Dane; and brother, Raymond (Sharon).

Harold is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret.

A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Mountain View United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial money will be given to the church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mountain View Funeral Service.
