A house was destroyed and about 10 acres of nearby woods burned after an early-morning fire in the Hutchinson Mountain area of the Southside Volunteer Fire Department’s district.
Firefighters were dispatched to the structure fire at about 3:23 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Southside Volunteer Fire Department. When crews arrived, the house was already partially collapsed and fully involved, with flames spreading into the surrounding woods.
The department said the fire had been burning for an extended period before it was reported, likely because of the early morning hour. By the time the fire was observed and reported, significant damage had already occurred.
No injuries were reported, officials said.
The house was declared a total loss. Firefighters also worked to contain the woods fire that burned an estimated 10 acres near the home.
The fire marked the third structure fire responded to by the Southside Volunteer Fire Department so far this month, according to the department’s statement.
