A candlelight vigil titled “Building Light in the Darkness” is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Maxfield Park in downtown Batesville, organizers said, offering residents what organizers say is a chance to mourn and reflect after a series of violent incidents involving federal immigration enforcement agents in Minnesota that left two U.S. citizens dead.

In a release, the vigil is described as a space for “everyone, especially community members feeling distressed, alone or powerless.” The evening will begin with a moment of silence and a candle lighting, followed by reflections from Dr. Patrick Mulick, Rev. Maggie Alsup, and Rev. Karen Cherwien.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share and listen, and organizers plan to offer information on practical ways to support one another and neighbors during difficult times.

“This is a space for people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives — religious and non-religious alike,” the event notice said. “All are welcome to attend.”

For more information, the community is directing people to the event’s Facebook page.
