A semi-truck hauling peat moss and mulch overturned Tuesday morning on a sharp mountain curve in Stone County, injuring the driver and his teenage daughter and shutting down the highway for much of the day.
The wreck occurred Feb. 17 on Highway 263 on Fox/Timbo Mountain. The Stone County Leader reported via Sheriff Brandon Long that the truck’s load of palleted peat moss and mulch shifted as the driver attempted to negotiate the curve, causing him to lose control.
The truck struck a guardrail and rolled over, coming to rest upside down at the edge of the pavement. Both occupants were extricated from the cab and taken for medical treatment. Long said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, calling them “very, very lucky.”
No other vehicles were involved. Authorities closed the highway for most of the day following the crash.
