
Grant Wayne Brinsfield, of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born April 23, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Grant “Jack” and Freda (McKee) Brinsfield.
Mr. Brinsfield was a 1957 graduate of Newport High School. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy for many years. During that time, Mr. Brinsfield served in the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated courage and dedication to his fellow servicemen and his nation. In recognition of his bravery and commitment, he was awarded Bronze Stars for his service. After a distinguished military career, Mr. Brinsfield retired from the Navy. After he returned home, he began working for Brown Root Power Plant in Newark.
Mr. Brinsfield was a devoted member of the First Assembly of God since 1986 and dedicated much of his time serving others through his faith. He served as head usher, taught Sunday School class at Pinedale Nursing Home, tended to the church yard, and could often be found helping in the nursery. He also drove the church van, gladly picking up anyone who wanted to attend church. On November 13, 2008, Mr. Brinsfield became a member of the Gideons, a ministry he was proud to be part of.
Mr. Brinsfield was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Brinsfield and Clayton Brinsfield; a sister, Janice L. Davidson; his nephew, Johnny Glenn Davidson; and his parents.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Monica Self, Cathy Hawkins, Violet Propes, Kay Lites, Destany Schnyer, Allen Brinsfield, and Jeffery Brinsfield; his cousins, Larry Brinsfield, Jerry Brinsfield, and Kim Skaggs; and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Brinsfield will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Curtis and Sis. Sherry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Watson Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday evening, March 13, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Matt Clark, Ray Clark, Robert Settlocker, Rob Walker, Richard Caraway, and Billy Madison. Honorary pallbearers are the members of First Assembly of God and the Gideons of Newport.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you give to the Gideons International for Bibles, in honor of Grant, at P.O. Box 72, Newport, AR 72112.
