The Arkansas Office of Skills Development awarded Arkansas State University-Newport more than $200,000 to support a new manufacturing training program aimed to help local industries.
ASU-Newport said in a media release this week that manufacturing continues to be a growing industry across Northeast Arkansas, and several industry leaders voiced concerns about the need for more specialized training for technical operators.
S&H System, Hytrol, and Intimidator UTV are three industries that approached ASU-Newport about providing training to help strengthen their workforces. With specialized training, these industries hope their workforces will operate more efficiently and at a faster pace, the school said.
ASU-Newport says the funding helps drive the school’s mission of supporting the regional economy by helping train the workforce.
