Independence County Library Launches Free Summer Genealogy Workshop Series
Independence County Library is inviting community members to discover their family history through a free, three-part genealogy workshop series this summer. Led by local genealogist Kelly Denison, the hands-on workshops will teach participants how to use the library’s premium genealogy databases to uncover records, stories, and connections from their own family trees.
The series will be held on the last Tuesday of June, July, and August from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the LaCroix Precision Optics Computer Instruction Room at Independence County Library.
Unlike traditional lectures, these interactive workshops place participants directly at computer workstations where they will learn research techniques while conducting searches on their own ancestors. Attendees are encouraged to bring family names, dates, photographs, military information, or other records to use during the sessions.
“Many people are surprised by the wealth of historical resources available through the library,” said Denison. “These workshops will help participants learn practical research skills while making meaningful discoveries about their own families.”
