Lyon’s Barnett, Campbell named to All-Arkansas Baseball Team

Lyon College baseball first baseman, Kylan Barnett, and starting pitcher, Tyson Campbell, were named to the 2018 All-Arkansas Collegiate Team, which was announced by Natural State Baseball on Monday afternoon. It is the first time both players have been named to the All-Arkansas Collegiate Team in their respective careers.

Barnett led the Scots in batting this season with a .370 average (61-for-165). He finished the year with 17 doubles, three triples, and a team-high nine home runs. He tied Kyle west for the team lead in RBIs with 53, while finishing second on the team with 49 runs scored. His .523 on-base percentage was the second-highest in a single season in program history. Barnett finished with a .673 slugging percentage during the year and drew a team-high 45 walks which both are the fifth-best totals in program history in a single season. He was named as the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week once and was also selected as a second-team All-American Midwest Conference (AMC) first baseman.

Campbell pitched his way to a 13-2 record in his first season at Lyon. His 13 victories tied a single-season record at Lyon and were tied for the fourth-most in the NAIA. Campbell finished the year with a 2.78 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 103.2 innings pitched. His 103.2 innings pitched placed him in a tie for eighth in the NAIA. The 116 strikeouts are tied for the most in a single season in Lyon baseball history. Campbell pitched a team-high eight complete games this season with two combined shutouts. In back-to-back starts against William Woods and Harris-Stowe, Campbell pitched a combined 17 innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out 10-or-more batters three times during the season, including a season-high of 12 on Apr. 7 against Harris-Stowe.

This season, Campbell was named as a second-team All-American, the co-American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, the AMC Newcomer Pitcher of the Year and a first-team All-AMC selection. He was also selected as the AMC Pitcher of the Week twice during the season.

Jacob Richardson, of Southern Arkansas, was named as the All-Arkansas Collegiate Player of the Year. The University of Arkansas landed the Pitcher of the Year (Blaine Knight), the Freshman of the Year (Heston Kjerstad), The Natural (Blaine Knight), the Coach of the Year (Dave Van Horn) and was named as the Team of the Year.
