Darrell Ray Alcorn Sr. age 59 was born on March 15, 1962, in Newport, Arkansas to the late Clemmie L. and Mildred Victoria Alcorn.  He was the eleventh of twelve children born to this union.  Darrell accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and united with the Pleasant Briarfork Missionary Baptist Church at Blackville, Arkansas under the leadership of the late Reverend T.W. Barnes.

Ray, as most people called him, attended the Blackville Elementary School for 1st and 2nd grade before being transferred to the W.F. Branch Elementary School due to District consolidation in 1970 and was later transferred to Castleberry Elementary School.  He graduated from Newport High School in 1981, and after graduating he enlisted in the United States Army.  During his tour of service, he was a Heavy Equipment Operator and a Fire Fighter.

Upon being honorably discharged from the Army he relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas, and later purchased forty acres of woodland in Woodson, Arkansas.  In 1990, Ray met and married his wife Synthia “Walton” Alcorn and to this union, four children were born.  He was a very hard worker (never missing a beat) always busy.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his 4-wheelers, living off the land, and eating fish.

In 2013 he left Arkansas and moved to San Antonio, Texas, and Muskogee, Oklahoma to peruse a career in the oil fields, willing to do whatever it took to provide for his family.  After six years, he moved back to Little Rock, Arkansas where he went on to chase his dream to leave behind a legacy.

Ray was a very strong person that never showed any sign of weakness.  He was a man of his word and he will truly be missed.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alex Louis and Clemmie Alcorn Jr., and one sister, Patricia Miller.

He leaves behind his wife, Synthia of Little Rock; three sons, Mario Alcorn of Little Rock, Darrell Jr. (Andrea) Alcorn of San Antonio, Texas, and Shaquille Alcorn of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Brittany Alcorn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis (Martin) Slaughter of Lancaster, New York, Marvin (Patricia) Alcorn Sr. and Patsy Alcorn of Diaz, Arkansas, Alvin E. (Dana) Alcorn of Detroit, Michigan, Marva (Larry) Crutchfield of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Michael (Mildred) Alcorn of Marion, Arkansas, Gerry (Charlotte) Alcorn of Bono, Arkansas; one aunt, Lille Simpson; two uncles, Loyce and Billy Ray Whorton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Service will be on June 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home.  Visitation will be on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
