Officials ID body of woman found in Melbourne

A logger alerted authorities on Thursday, July 15, after he discovered the body of a deceased woman in a ditch while he was driving down Red Lamb Road in Melbourne, according to a release from the Izard County Sheriff’s Office.

A short time later, law enforcement was alerted of a woman that lives in the area who had returned home from work to discover her daughter was not at their residence.

Izard County Chief Deputy Sheriff Charley Melton said in a release that officials identified the deceased woman as Rebekah Johnson, 44. Melton said an investigation is ongoing, but foul play is not suspected.

The body has been sent to the state crime lab for an official cause of death, the release said.
