A Stone County man was arrested after authorities say a physical altercation occurred with Mountain View police.

According to circuit court information, officers were called to a Mountain View business on Sept. 18 in response to a man slumped over in a truck. When they arrived, officers found Edward Joseph Walker, 61, in the driver’s seat with the engine running and the truck’s passenger door open. The court information said items had been spilled from the truck’s seat and floorboard onto the asphalt parking area.

Officers said Walker was “clearly irritated, confused, and confrontational,” according to his arrest affidavit. The officers also speculated he was under the influence of a foreign substance. The affidavit said when an officer attempted to get Walker out of the truck, a physical confrontation occurred, which ended after officers pulled him to the ground and were able to put him in hand restraints.

After medical assistance arrived and cleared Walker, he was placed in the Stone County Jail on a bond of $25,000. He was charged with refusal to submit to arrest, two felony counts of second-degree battery, and disorderly conduct.

The affidvait said 15 bottles of various medications were taken from the vehicle. The affidavit also noted a check of Walker’s criminal history indicated four previous charges of battery involving law enforcement officers dating back to 2018.
