Southerners end first 5A season with a win over Rams

The Southside Southerners wrapped up their first football season in Class 5A with a 44-7 mercy rule win over the Paragould Rams Friday night in Paragould.

The Southerners ended the season 6-4 over and fell two points shy of making the playoffs, when the Batesville Pioneers upset Valley View later Friday evening.

The Southerners (who beat Batesville 35-21) fell to Nettleton earlier in the season and lost the tiebreaker to the Raiders.

It was a historic first season in Class 5A for the Southerners, as the program and school continue to grow.

This season, the Southside Southerners:

  • Won the the first 5A game in school history over Forrest City
  • Winning record in first 5A season (6-4)
  • Beat Batesville in the first-ever varsity matchup between the two area schools
  • Won over Batesville, Forrest City, Paragould, Brookland, Bald Knob, and Heber Springs
  • Had largest crowd in school history against Batesville in the Battle of the Bridge
