The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) will conduct an open house, in-person, public involvement meeting today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss proposed plans to construct an emergency path adjacent to Highway 167 on Ramsey Mountain in Independence County.

The meeting will be held at Batesville Community Center in rooms A and B. The center is located at 1420 20th St. in Batesville.

The proposed project will construct a parallel emergency path adjacent to Hwy. 167 on Ramsey Mountain. The emergency path will be utilized as an incident management tool in the event of a traffic accident that requires the closure of the existing Hwy. 167.

ARDOT says the emergency bypass will consist of two 16-foot travel lanes with 6-foot shoulders to accommodate a single traffic lane in each direction. It will be separated from the existing Hwy. 167 travel lanes by a concrete median barrier. Access to the additional lanes will be controlled by an automatic gate system to prevent usage during normal traffic operation scenarios.

Click here to view meeting materials and provide written comments on the project until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16. A Spanish translation of the presentation is available on the website. (Una traducción al español de la presentación está disponible en el sitio web.)

ARDOT is seeking public input on the proposed path. To print the online form and mail it to ARDOT, send it to:

Environmental Division
10324 Interstate 30
Little Rock, AR 72209

ARDOT will consider all public input received before making a final decision on the proposed path.
