Lyon College’s annual holiday concert and tree-lighting ceremony set for tonight

Lyon College will ring in the season with its annual band and choir holiday concert and tree-lighting ceremony, “A Jolly Good Time,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, in Sloan Auditorium of the Brown Chapel and Fine Arts Building on the Lyon College campus, 2300 Highland Rd., Batesville. Following the concert, there will be a tree-lighting ceremony outside the chapel. Refreshments will be served. The free event is open to the public.

Lyon College will ring in the season with its annual band and choir holiday concert and tree-lighting ceremony, “A Jolly Good Time,” at 7 p.m. tonight in Sloan Auditorium of the Brown Chapel and Fine Arts Building on the Lyon College campus, 2300 Highland Rd. in Batesville.

The free event is open to the public.

The program will open with selections by the Batesville Brass Society, featuring Janet Thomas and Kyle Gaither on trumpet, Brad Nikkel on French horn, Alex Roofe on tuba, and Dr. David Hutchison, director, on trombone.

The Lyon College Gospel Choir, under the direction of Barretta Robinson, will present “Emmanuel” and “Lift the Savior Up,” featuring Justin Shaw on piano.

The Lyon College Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. Fredrick Brown, will present the traditional holiday classic “Greensleeves” and Johnnie Vinson’s “A Jazzy Christmas.”

Under the direction of Dr. Michael Oriatti, the Batesville Choral Society will present the traditional spiritual “Keep Your Lamps” and carols “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” featuring tenor Jim Sproles, “Gesu Bambino,” “Celebration of Light” and Silent Night, featuring tenor Bailey Gilligan.

Following the concert, there will be a tree-lighting ceremony outside the chapel. Refreshments will be served.
