As the holiday season approaches, the Batesville Police Department is reminding residents to make safety a priority while celebrating, traveling, and shopping.
Police Chief John Scarbrough said officers will be out in full force throughout the holidays to help protect the community and ensure everyone enjoys the season safely.
“Our officers will be out in full force throughout the holiday season to help protect our community,” Scarbrough said. “We want everyone to celebrate responsibly, travel safely, and look out for one another.”
The department released several safety reminders for the season. Drivers are urged never to drive impaired, always buckle up, and avoid distractions such as texting or using a mobile device while behind the wheel. Officials also recommend allowing extra travel time and staying alert for pedestrians and weather-related hazards.
For shoppers, police advise parking in well-lit areas, keeping valuables out of sight, and securing purses, wallets, and phones. Online shoppers are encouraged to use reputable websites and monitor accounts for suspicious activity.
Residents traveling or leaving home for extended periods are urged to lock all doors and windows, avoid overloading electrical outlets, and have a friend or neighbor watch their property. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the Batesville Police Department.
Officers will conduct increased patrols during the holidays, focusing on impaired driving, theft prevention, and overall public safety.
“The holidays should be a time of joy and togetherness,” Scarbrough said. “With a little extra care and awareness, we can all do our part to make sure everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.”
