Obituary: Edward Ray Mahan Sr.

Edward Ray Mahan Sr., 65, of Grubbs, passed from this life on January 8, 2026, in Memphis. He was born on June 2, 1960, to Charles Ray and Marian Beatrice (Watkins) Mahan.

Edward farmed for a living and took great pride in his work, spending many years providing for his family through his dedication and strong work ethic. He was a faithful member of Jesus Is Lord Non-Denominational Church in Jacksonport, where his faith was an important part of his life. Edward enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors, finding peace in nature. He always had his faithful dog, Dixie by his side. He also loved tinkering with and repairing things, especially lawn mowers, and was known for being able to fix just about anything.  He never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer advice, and his steady presence, sense of humor, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Above all, Edward cherished his family and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ricky Mahan; and his sister, Diane Kunkle.

Edward is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Janet (Glover) Mahan of Grubbs; his son, Edward Mahan Jr. (Shannon) of Grubbs; his daughters, Becky Adams (Matt) of Beedeville and Lacy Mahan (Carsen) of Wynne; his sisters, Anita Moss (Cletus) of Thida and Susan Middleton of Newport; his grandchildren, Destiny Mahan, Madison Mahan, Selena Lachance, Jay Mahan, Sean Porter Jr, (Madelynn Tubbs), Ryan Porter, Chloe Porter, Gauge Adams, and Chase Adams; his great-grandchildren, Blake Summers, Sadie Summers, Maisy Mahan, Aubrey Smith, Lynleigh Blagg, Casen Blagg, and Jaxson Blagg; his step-father, Edward Adams; his aunts, Bonnie Titus, Glenda Moffitt, and Faye Shannon; his friends, Leon Tidwell, Larry Bailey, Jimmy Bowen, Roger Asher, and Mike Willard; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He is also survived by his loyal dog, Dixie.

Edward will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are J.R. Porter, Matt Adams, James Jones, Dennie Brownfield, Henry Brownfield, and Chucky Stallnacker. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Jonker, Sky Summers, and Johnathan Smith.

Service will be at 11:00 on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Leon Tidwell and Sister Karen Washington officiating. Interment at Clark Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026.
