A Kansas murder suspect wanted in connection with a December shooting was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon during a routine traffic stop on a central Arkansas highway, authorities said.
Van Buren County sheriff’s deputies assisted an Arkansas State trooper in stopping a vehicle at approximately 2:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 65 in Clinton, across from Ozark Health, where Joshua Paul Pourciau, 29, of Winfield, Kan., was apprehended without further incident. He was transported to the Van Buren County Detention Center.
Pourciau had been the subject of an active felony arrest warrant out of Winfield, Kan., stemming from a Dec. 21 shooting at the Walnut Towers apartment complex in that city.
Winfield police had announced Jan. 7 that a co-defendant, Rocky Leroy Brown, 31, also of Winfield, had been arrested Jan. 4 on a felony warrant for attempted first-degree murder in connection with the same incident. At that time, authorities described Pourciau as still at large and believed to be somewhere in Kansas, Arkansas, or Louisiana.
It was not immediately clear what charges Pourciau will face or when extradition proceedings to Kansas might begin.
