
Robert William “Bill” Mitchell, 65, of Batesville, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was born on May 23, 1960, in California to Charles Anderson Mitchell and Bobbie Jean (Barksdale) Mitchell.
Bill lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the outdoors. He spent most of his adult life as a master carpenter, where his skill, dedication, and steady hands reflected the pride he took in his work. Those who knew him will remember him as a man who valued honesty, craftsmanship, and a job well done.
He was married to the love of his life, Machelle Mitchell, for 40 years, and their marriage was a lasting example of commitment and companionship. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and shared memories. Bill especially cherished time spent outdoors, and he loved hunting for anything and fishing for everything. Whether he was working with wood or enjoying the quiet of nature, he found contentment in the things he loved most.
He is survived by his wife, Machelle Mitchell, of the home; one son, Mark Mitchell and his wife Kate of Greenbrier; one brother, Michael Mitchell of Conway; and one grandchild, Harper Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alan Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church on Collietown Road, with Leonard Tharp officiating. Burial will follow at Barnes Cemetery in Bethesda. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Robert Caldwell, Eric Caldwell, Brad Moser, Brian Moser, Randy Butler, Mike Platt, and Mike Silas. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Winningham and Terry Franks.
Bill’s life was one of quiet strength, faithful love, and lasting devotion to the people and places he held dear. He will be remembered with affection by his family and friends, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
