The Mountain View Iris Festival returns May 1-2, bringing a weekend of floral displays, classic cars, and community music to the Stone County Courthouse square.

The festivities begin Friday at 10 a.m. with performances by the Carousel Organ Association of America and the Automatic Musical Collectors’ Association. Live music continues Friday night at 7 p.m. at the courthouse stage.

Saturday’s schedule features a Corvette and hot rod show on the west side of the courthouse from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the festival’s signature street dance at 7 p.m.

For young visitors, a “Kids Zone” will operate at the intersection of Knox and Webb streets. The area will offer train rides, a storybook adventure and a chance for children to paint and plant irises from 10 a.m. to noon.

The festival serves as a primary fundraiser for the Mountain View Iris Festival, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and member of the American Iris Society. Organizers will host an official iris show Saturday at noon behind the courthouse, where the public can view and vote on entries.

“Our mission is to promote the cultivation and preservation of the genus iris,” organizers said in a statement, noting that proceeds support community service garden projects.

Those looking to improve their gardening skills can visit the Iris Learning Center at the Arkansas Craft School, 101 N. Peabody Ave. Volunteers will be on-site to provide maintenance tips and planting demonstrations.
