A search effort is underway on Bull Shoals Lake for a 48-year-old Lakeview man who failed to return from a Friday evening fishing trip.
According to Mountain Home radio station KTLO, Mark Hanes was reported missing by family members after he did not return home at his expected time, shortly after dark. Senior Corporal Game Warden Lyndle Crownover of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission told the station that Hanes set out to go fishing around 5 p.m. Friday.
Concerned family members located Hanes’ truck and trailer at the Howard Creek boat ramp near Bull Shoals Lake, but he was nowhere to be found.
The search intensified early Saturday morning after a fisherman discovered an empty boat washed up on the bank around 8:30 a.m.
The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office has filed an official missing person report. Currently, the Arkansas Game and Fish dive team, along with other local agencies, are utilizing sonar technology in an effort to locate Hanes or any evidence that could assist the investigation.
No further details regarding the disappearance have been released at this time.
