A 73-year-old Sharp County man faces a felony sexual assault charge following an investigation into allegations involving a former coworker.
Alan Lynn Phelps, of Cherokee Village, was charged with two felony counts of second-degree sexual assault in an arrest affidavit filed Monday.
The charges follow an investigation by the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office into a report of recurring harassment at a local business.
According to court documents, a former employee alleged that Phelps subjected her to escalating and unwanted physical contact between late 2024 and early 2025. The victim told investigators she had notified her employers of the behavior on multiple occasions prior to her resignation.
In statements to authorities, representatives for the business confirmed they were aware of the allegations but stated they had not personally witnessed the inappropriate contact.
Phelps declined to provide a statement to investigators. He was arrested on May 4, 2026.
