A Stone County woman is behind bars after she reportedly drove her neighbor’s vehicle to go to the local hospital.

Court records note on Feb. 18, Stone County dispatch advised deputies a report was needed at the Stone County Medical Center involving a possible incident regarding Arenda Leighow, 48.

Cpl. Justin Meeks and Investigator Brad Breeding with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office responded and spoke to Leighow, who told authorities she had gone to her neighbor’s house for help. After knocking on the door to no answer, Leighow stated she “took the green Jeep that was in the yard to go to the hospital,” according to court documents. When asked how she obtained the keys, Leighow stated the keys were in the vehicle.

While speaking with Leighow, dispatch alerted officers the owner of the vehicle had called and reported it stolen.

Meeks contacted the vehicle’s owner, Bobby Rhodes. Rhodes stated he believed his vehicle had been taken by Leighow and that he had earlier told Leighow not to be back on his property. Meeks advised Rhodes that the vehicle was located at the hospital, and a deputy would come to his home to get a statement and bring him to his vehicle.

Once Leighow was finished at the hospital she was taken into custody and transported to the Stone County Jail.

The vehicle was released to Rhodes.
