Local volunteers have organized a campaign to help show support for law enforcement officers.

The group, “Back the Blue of Independence County,” is spearheaded by Brook Taylor, who says the campaign intends to raise $5,000 to purchase coolers for officers to use during their shifts for their drinks and food.

Coolers will eventually be distributed to each of the 70 or so officers throughout Independence County, the group says.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, people will have an opportunity to give to the campaign. Volunteers will be stationed at 560 Eagle Mountain Dr. with collection buckets from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The group also has a GoFundMe campaign page that can be accessed here.

In the wake of cities across the country calling to defund their police force, citizens of Independence County came together with a desire to show their support for their men and women in blue, Taylor says.

Our community’s support is greatly needed, not only in this initiative, but overall to show our officers that what they do each and every day is valued and appreciated by our citizens, she said
