Vaughn wins Independence County Spelling Bee, advances to State Bee

Batesville Junior High Seventh-grader Zachary Vaughn outspelled eight other competitors from area schools to become the 2022 Independence County Spelling Bee winner Tuesday, Jan. 25. 

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville hosted the event in Independence Hall with nine competitors from area schools ranging from fifth to eighth graders competing in the bee. 

Katelynn Williford, a fifth-grade student from Midland, was the runner-up. 

Vaughn and Williford received a $50 and a $25 gift card, respectively, courtesy of Citizens Bank.
