Jimmy Lee Hughes, 88, of Batesville, passed away on August 22, 2022.

A lifelong resident of Batesville, Jimmy was born on April 7, 1934, to Dallas and Loice Gennings Hughes, who predeceased him.

Jimmy was a loving husband, father, brother and an especially proud grandfather. He spent his working years at the Batesville Guard, where he initially delivered papers on horseback and then worked as the Production Manager, running the presses and ensuring the residents of Batesville had their daily local paper. Jimmy never met a stranger and was always ready to share a story. He loved hunting, fishing and skeet shooting and was happiest when he was out working on his land, tinkering in his workshop and spending time with his beloved wife, BB.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bertha Wade Hughes of Batesville; two daughters, Julie Reves (Ed) of Sherwood and Laura Baldwin (Bruce) of Cave Creek, AZ; one granddaughter, Natalie Grace Baldwin, who had him wrapped around her little finger; one sister, Glenda Brewer of Little Rock; two nephews, David Brewer (Nancy) and Scott Brewer (Amy) and their families. In addition to their immediate family, Jimmy was blessed to have lifelong friendships with many people in Batesville.

The family would like to extend their thanks to all the healthcare providers that cared for Jimmy, especially the White River Medical Center Cardiac Rehab team and the wonderful staff at Wood-Lawn Heights.

Graveside memorial service will be held at 2 pm Friday, September 2, 2022, at Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be considered to Central Avenue United Methodist Church, 1205 N Central Avenue, Batesville, AR 72501, or Old Independence Regional Museum, 380 S. 9th, Batesville, AR 72501.
