Celebrate the heritage of mining in Independence County when the Cushman Miners Day is planned for the annual Cushman Miners Day, this Saturday.

The Independence County town of Cushman celebrates its manganese mining heritage Saturday with the annual Cushman Miners Day.

A parade, cornhole tournament, vendors, kids’ activities, live music, axe throwing, giveaways along with food and craft vendors and wet and dry bounce houses will be part of the fun.

Cushman, formerly known as Minersville, was at one point the home to the extensive mining of manganese, an important alloy agent in the manufacture of steel.

Sydney Franks, from the Cushman Community Events Committee, recently dropped by Wes Gwaltney’s Slightly Scrambled morning show on White River Now’s Arkansas 103.3 KWOZ to visit about the big fun planned on Saturday.

Listen to their interview below.
