An Independence County man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.

According to documents filed Thursday in Independence County Circuit Court, authorities were notified of an injured pedestrian on the afternoon of Jan. 3.

A woman in a Harrison Street residence told deputies from the Independence County Sheriff’s Department she heard a loud noise and believed it was a vehicle backfiring. But, when she went outside to check, she heard a person yelling for help. After arriving on the scene, deputies located the victim, who was transported to the White River Medical Center with multiple injuries.

On Jan. 5, Brandon Jesse Robison, 26, was interviewed at the sheriff’s department by Lieutenant Zach Rawlins regarding the accident. According to the circuit court documents, Robison said he woke up from a nap around 3 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. and left home to go pick up his daughter. He told authorities that while driving through the area where the accident occurred, his vehicle struck something, but he said he didn’t think much about it, noting he just thought he struck a mailbox. The court information said Robison wanted to inform the sheriff’s office in case it was not a mailbox but something else.

After the interview concluded, Rawlins and Robison traveled to examine and photograph Robison’s truck. The investigating officer was able to document that the truck had damage on the passenger side and that a broken clear lens left at the scene matched perfectly with the damaged passenger-side headlight on the truck in question.

The court information said Robison failed to comply with the requirements of the laws regarding personal injury accidents. He is charged with one felony, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, and one misdemeanor, third-degree battery.

Arkansas statute says it is a requirement in an accident involving death or personal injuries that a person involved remain at the scene, render aid, and provide information. A violation is a Class D felony.

Robison’s bond was set at $5,000.
