The Batesville School District has announced the appointment of Dr. T. Kenneth James, Ed.D., as its new Superintendent, citing his extensive experience and proven leadership in education.

James, a Batesville native, previously served as BSD superintendent for six years, beginning in 1993.

James was appointed after Dr. Michael Hester, the now-former BSD superintendent, submitted his resignation to the board on March 7. (Click here for this story from White River Now.)

In a media release announcing the appointment, the district said James brings a “wealth of experience and a proven track record” to the role.

James was appointed Commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Education by Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2004 and reappointed by Gov. Mike Beebe in January 2007.

During his tenure as State Commissioner of Education, James also served as President of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and was a member of the CCSSO Board for five years.

His previous experience includes serving as the superintendent of schools in Little Rock and Van Buren and Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington, Ken.

James’s educational background includes positions such as Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services with the Escondido Union High School District in California, as well as roles as high school principal and assistant high school Principal in various California districts.

He earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from Northern Arizona University and the United States International University in San Diego, Cal., in 1992. He holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Arkansas State University.

In the release, the district said it, “eagerly anticipates the positive impact Dr. T. Kenneth James will bring to the district as its new Superintendent. His wealth of experience, commitment to education, and familiarity with Pioneer Nation make him an ideal leader to guide the district toward continued success.”

“The Board of Directors of the Batesville School District is pleased to welcome Dr. Kenneth James back to the Batesville school district,” said Batesville School Board President Scott Fredricks. “The board has 100% confidence in his ability to lead the district into the future, and we look forward to many great things to come.”
