A 26-year-old man has been charged with rape and sexually grooming a child following an incident reported Sunday, according to court documents.
Ryan Michael Rosier was arrested on charges of rape, a Class Y felony, and sexually grooming a child, a Class D felony, according to Independence County Circuit Court records.
The charges stem from an alleged assault Sept. 7 at Rosier’s Batesville residence. An affidavit says the 12-year-old victim, described as a family member, was visiting Rosier and his girlfriend to see their 6-month-old child.
The victim’s mother contacted authorities after the child disclosed the alleged assault. The victim was later interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center.
Court records allege Rosier showed the victim explicit images and videos on his phone before the assault occurred, despite the child’s repeated refusals.
Rosier is being held at the Independence County Jail on $500,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
The investigation was conducted by Independence County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kody Headley and Cave City Lt. Trent Milligan.
