Whosoever Will Ministries, in cooperation with several local ministries and sponsors, will host a community round table event Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Building in Mountain View.
The event aims to connect with residents and discuss the need for transitional housing in Stone County following the recent closure of the local women’s shelter.
“We are aware that, with the closing of the local women’s shelter, there will be an increase in the already existing need for transitional housing,” said Whosoever Will Ministries Pastor Jason Allen. “Our goal is to assess the needs, resources and interest in opening a transitional housing facility in Stone County.”
Allen said the event is intended to identify which populations may need services most and to connect with individuals who have experience or resources that could help establish a facility.
All Stone County residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. The event will feature live music by Shirley Robertson of the Wild Rose Bluegrass Band and the Jacob Austin Band, and a free meal will be served.
“We want this to be a fun, family-friendly exchange of ideas,” Allen said. “Our mission in Mountain View is to serve the community in every way we can.”
Allen added that the event was made possible through support from the American Legion, Lund Ministries, Mandi McElhaney’s Mandi Magic, local businesses and volunteers.
The “Meet-N-Eat” will begin with music and a meal served at 3 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The community discussion will follow, with additional music and social time afterward.
