Obituary: Darla R. Barner

Darla R. Barner, of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the age of 59. She was born on September 19, 1966, the daughter of Billy Joe and Ethel Ellen (Brown) Barner.

Miss Barner was a graduate of Newport High School. She dedicated many years of her life to serving her community as the Postmaster with the United States Postal Service, where she worked until her retirement. Miss Barner was known as a hard worker who took great pride in her job and was respected by both her coworkers and the many people she served daily.

Miss Barner was a devoted member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was very active in her faith.

In her free time, Miss Barner enjoyed researching a variety of topics and was always eager to learn something new. Her greatest joy came from caring for her tropical fish, finches, and canaries. She especially cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Miss Barner is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by two brothers, Joe Barner and Stephen Barner; a sister, Leah Wing and husband Randy, all of whom are of Newport; her niece, Hannah Wing; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a lifetime of friends.

A joint funeral service honoring the lives of Miss Darla Barner and her beloved mother, Mrs. Ethel Barner, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Mario Rodriguez, Jason Linhart, Terry Hughes, Lee Binkley, Al Williams, Alex Ruffins, Mantel Love, and Juan Gonzalez.
