Thomas Neil Vanemburg, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, just days before his 85th birthday. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Thomas lived a life rooted in hard work, faith, and deep love for those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Neil and Emogene Laman Van Emburg; his brother, Charles William Van Emburg; and his sister, Dr. Rebecca Jane Van Emburg Young.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret Ann Sandlin Vanemburg, with whom he built a life full of love, laughter, and shared memories. He is also survived by his three sons: Thomas Neil Vanemburg II and his son Grant Gold; Jeffrey Kent Vanemburg and his wife Misty, along with their children Samuel Andrew Vanemburg, Margaret Victoria Vanemburg, and Jeffrey Maxwell Vanemburg; and Aaron Wayne Vanemburg and his wife Lacey, along with their children Layla Rosa Vanemburg and Savannah Rosa Vanemburg.

He is further survived by his sister, Kathy Moran; his brothers-in-law, David, Mickey, and Tim Sandlin and their families; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Thomas dedicated his life to farming and agriculture and built a lifelong career in the poultry industry, a calling he carried with pride and commitment. In recognition of their dedication and hard work, he and his family were honored as Farm Family of the Year in 2012.

Beyond his work, he found his greatest joy in time spent with his family. He especially loved being outdoors—hunting, fishing, and camping along the White River, Greenbrier Creek, throughout South Arkansas, and at Lake D’Arbonne, Louisiana. Those moments, shared with his wife, sons, grandchildren, and friends, were among his most treasured.

He was an enthusiastic supporter of his favorite teams, always cheering on the Pioneers, Razorbacks, and Cowboys. He proudly played football for the Pioneers during their state championship season, a memory he carried with him throughout his life. An avid reader, Thomas enjoyed keeping up with the news and sharing stories from the newspaper and his favorite hunting magazines with anyone willing to listen. Known for his warm spirit and easygoing nature, he never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he encountered.

Thomas will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his strong work ethic, his generosity, and the many lives he touched along the way. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Desha First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Josh Swinea officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Desha First Baptist Church, 2655 Heber Springs Rd, Batesville, AR 72501.
